Differential Simulator limitations

What the current simulator covers.

Educational use

Use the simulator to practice peripheral blood cell identification, WBC differential counting, and laboratory pattern interpretation. It does not report patient results or replace laboratory procedures.

Available cases

Practice cases currently present normal adult peripheral blood. Other reviewed profiles are not available until the simulator can select and present them correctly.

Morphology tags recorded during a count are practice notes. The scored result covers cell identification, the tally, calculations, and interpretation; morphology tagging is not scored in this version.

Simulated cases

Each case clearly states that its patient is simulated. Laboratory values and images come from different specimens and do not represent one patient or slide.

Single-cell image exercise

The exercise presents reviewed single-cell images one at a time from a case's fixed sample. It does not provide a low-power smear scan, counting-area selection, linked fields, or an assessment of spatial sampling.

Limits on interpretation

  • Chronic-phase-CML-compatible wording does not assign a definitive phase. The case includes detected BCR::ABL1, and definitive phase assignment requires all applicable clinical and laboratory findings.
  • An AML-compatible interpretation stops at suspicious for AML. Immunophenotypic, cytogenetic, and molecular evidence is required before assigning AML lineage or a WHO entity.
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency interpretation identifies a laboratory pattern. The available results do not establish the cause.

Display and runtime limits

Digital enlargement changes the display but adds no optical detail. The simulator requires JavaScript and a working evaluation service. When it cannot start, the route states those requirements and shows no case data or inert controls.
