LatticeMLS is written and reviewed by Alexan Berberian, MS, MLS(ASCP), who holds an MS in Biomedical Science and ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. The library is an independent project and is not produced by an institution, publisher, or editorial board.

Editorial review

Each page is checked against its cited sources before publication. The date shown at the foot of a topic indicates when its content was most recently reviewed against those sources.

Editorial review follows three principles:

• Specific claims are supported by specific sources. Numerical values, thresholds, and method characteristics are cited, while broadly established laboratory principles may not require an individual citation.
• A citation is used only when the source directly supports the associated claim. When a source does not cover the full scope of a statement, the claim is narrowed or an additional source is used.
• Accreditation requirements, federal regulations, manufacturer instructions, and general good practice are identified separately because they represent different levels of authority.

When sources disagree or a threshold varies among laboratories, the variation is stated rather than presented as a universal value.

Reporting an error

Readers are encouraged to report unclear, outdated, or incorrect information. Each topic includes a link that opens an email with the page title, and reports may also be sent directly to [email protected].

A correction report is most useful when it includes:

1. The page and section.
2. The statement in question.
3. The proposed correction and, when available, a supporting source.

Confirmed factual errors are corrected, and the page's review date is updated when the revised content is checked against its sources.

Intended audience

The primary audience is practising laboratory professionals, including those returning to a laboratory area, working in an unfamiliar section, or reviewing a method limitation before reporting a result. Students and certification candidates may also use the library to review the scientific principles and interpretive reasoning applied in laboratory practice.

The library is organized according to the ASCP Board of Certification Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) Examination Content Guideline (revised 9 June 2026). This structure reflects content areas familiar to medical laboratory professionals. Percentage ranges shown for a discipline are taken from the examination guideline and do not represent the completion of this library.

LatticeMLS is independently written and operated. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed, or approved by the ASCP or its Board of Certification.

Scope and limitations

LatticeMLS is educational reference material. It does not provide continuing-education credit or competency assessment and is not a substitute for validated laboratory procedures, manufacturer instructions, or current regulatory requirements. It does not provide clinical advice and should not be used independently for patient-care decisions.

Thresholds, volumes, and acceptance limits are included to explain laboratory concepts. Testing must follow the values defined by the applicable laboratory procedure.

Privacy

The site does not require accounts and does not use analytics, advertising, tracking scripts, or cookies set by LatticeMLS. Search is processed locally in the browser, and the site does not record search terms or the pages a reader views.
