Laboratory scientists, technologists, and shipping-desk staff who classify and prepare biological material for courier or air transport

Learning objectives

  • Distinguish exempt human/animal specimen, Category B, Category A, regulated medical waste, and dry ice using the current DOT and IATA classification criteria
  • Select the correct triple packaging, quantity limits, absorbent/cushioning, pressure and temperature controls, labels, marks, and documentation for a classified shipment
  • Recognize recurrent training, security, carrier, import/export, and emergency-response responsibilities and identify when a trained shipper or dangerous-goods specialist must be involved
