The defensible response is decision-led: protect the patient and result integrity, use only the minimum necessary information through an approved channel, preserve the factual record, and escalate through the current supervisory, compliance, or correction route when the normal path fails. This case does not authorize release of a flagged result under pressure or replacement of a correction with silent editing.

Where College of American Pathologists (CAP) checklist language matters to your accreditation, check your current CAP checklist directly for that specific wording.
Protect the patient and result integrity, preserve the factual record, and use the current approved escalation and correction route rather than improvising under pressure. The laboratory’s current local policy controls its reporting channels, confidentiality handling, and correction process.
