Required section · Section 5 of 6
Audit and Repair the Misaligned Artifact
Use the flawed unit as the artifact. Its vague objective, history-heavy slides, absent practice, and icon-focused quiz do not produce evidence that an operator can classify a control. Repair the objective first, then inspect each activity and item against that objective. A storage question may remain when it supports control validity, but it cannot replace the central decision evidence.
For this case, the posted acceptance range is 70 to 110 mg/dL. A control result of 118 mg/dL is outside that range. The preferred response is to hold and escalate according to the local procedure rather than report a patient result. The exact escalation path, meter-specific flags, and local acceptance range must come from the current workstation material.
When competence is not demonstrated, the laboratory should document the deficiency and decide whether independent performance should be restricted while retraining and reassessment occur. Whether prior results need review and the exact restriction process are local policy decisions. Repair the first broken link between objective, evidence, instruction, and assessment before adding content.
Ordering exercise
Put the repair actions in the order that prevents a loose assessment from driving the unit.
1. Audit the quiz
Keep or replace items based on the stated evidence.
2. Plan instruction
Select the model, worked example, and faded practice.
3. Identify the capability
Name the operator, condition, and bounded control decision.
4. Write evidence
Set the objective and criterion for a correctly classified control.
