Debrief: what this workbook supports and what it does not

The case supports building a small, auditable spreadsheet analysis: preserving raw data, writing and testing formulas before locking them, and choosing a chart that matches the size and shape of the question. It does not supply a validated numeric reference interval or decision limit for any analyte; every threshold in the guided case (5.5 mmol/L, 0.4 ng/mL, and a 30-minute TAT target) is an example value, not a cited clinical range. A real workbook must draw its reference intervals and decision limits from the laboratory's own established, transferred, or verified source under CLSI EP28-A3c, and must draw its critical-value list from local policy.

The turnaround-time comparison is historical: a CAP Q-Probes study of 159 institutions found the fastest-performing quartile had a median order-to-report TAT of about 50 minutes for troponin and about 48 minutes for CK-MB, with 90th-percentile TATs roughly 60 to 70 minutes at top-performing sites. That comparison is only valid when two laboratories share the same TAT clock definition, the same start and stop timestamp, the same population, and the same exclusions; a laboratory building its own dashboard should document its exact TAT definition before comparing to any benchmark, and should treat this historical study as a comparator, not a current mandated cutoff.

Local policy controls the boundary for patient-touching workbook use. Do not place PHI in an unapproved file or tool: stop using that location, secure the information through the current privacy/security route, and report the event as the institution requires.

A workbook earns trust the same way a new analyzer does, through documented validation, boundary testing, and a version trail, not through a chart that merely looks finished.
