Learner decision
If dark material lies near an RBC margin, first decide whether it is an overlay or precipitate by focus and repeated fields. Do not call it an inclusion until intracellular material is supported. A suspicious parasite-like structure requires prompt qualified malaria review according to procedure; parasites are not defined by two colors.
For supported angular clusters, use a valid Perls confirmation path. For bite or blister cells with oxidative context, use a valid supravital consideration path. For unresolved material, repeat preparation, obtain qualified review, or escalate; do not overcall a structure.

Ordering exercise
Order the review actions for a questionable dark structure near a red-cell margin.
1. Use fine focus
Assess whether the structure is integrated within the red cell.
2. Route uncertainty
Use qualified review and the local parasite pathway when indicated.
3. Compare across the field
Assess whether similar structures recur and whether background artifact is present.
4. Select a suitable smear area
Begin in a technically acceptable region of the film.
