Macro-ovalocytes, hypersegmented neutrophils, low reticulocytes, and concordant functional markers support an impaired DNA synthesis pattern. Round macrocytosis, regeneration, chemistry, medication exposure, and marrow findings redirect the differential. None of these patterns establishes a final clinical diagnosis by itself.

Current reference intervals, reflex algorithms, critical values, and escalation procedures are local. The laboratory must use its current procedure manual for method limitations, result reporting, and qualified reviewer authorization. Verify applicable performance specifications before making local reporting claims.
