What the result supports

HPLC, CE, complementary electrophoresis, and molecular testing create different evidence because they examine different properties. A shared retention window or zone can leave more than one identity possible. Quantitative fractions may be shifted by biological and analytical factors. The best report says what was measured and separates that observation from interpretation.

For the case, elevated HbA2 with microcytosis supports beta-thalassemia carrier evaluation on the declared method. It does not establish genotype, and the next action depends on the local method limitations and reflex policy. Recent transfusion, transplant, therapy, age, and specimen context can alter the meaning of the percentage. Use orthogonal evidence when a presumptive pattern would otherwise carry more certainty than the method provides.
